Cruisin'

So I guess I should apologize for my little profanity rant of the last post. I maybe got a little carried away in my expression of my frustration. I have been dating in the adult world for 13 years and stupid shit just gets very annoying and I'm tired of it. To give a little update on Club Guy - he texted me later that night. At 10:07 p.m. Yup - 67 minutes AFTER we were supposed to meet. It said "Sorry to get back to you so late. I hate doing that to someone. I can't make it tonight, hope you have fun on vaca. I hope we can meet up when u get back." Pffffft I did not respond. What was I to say? Gee that would have been nice to know 68 minutes ago! I did not have access to my cell phone while on vacation and when I got back to Miami after being at sea I had a text from him that said "Are you mad at me?" I just said I wasn't thrilled about about basically being stood up Friday night. Needless to say I have not heard from him again. Slightly disappointed how this all went down. He was cute and a good dancer. Oh well.

A little update on the Fish - he messaged me today to ask about the cruise. We chatted a little bit about it, but that was it. No date.

Now for the cruise...best vacation ever! I really did not know what to expect from this vacation, except that I would be with some fabulous friends and we would make a good time out of anything. Traveling to Miami from Reno was an all day event. I stayed drugged up on Xanax to make the three flights tolerable. (I am not afraid of the plane crashing, I am claustrophobic). I met my girls (Llennifur, Sweet K and Sugar Bird) at the hotel late at night and we had a shuttle to the port of Miami the next day (Sunday 1-16) at noon. We each had a case of diet coke and wine (priorities). Our shuttle had other Carnival Valor travelers. We were excited. Getting on the boat took less than an hour and as four single fabulous ladies we were already scoping out the man goods in the lines - we were not that impressed. Our first night on the ship we decided had to be a clubbing night as the next day was a Fun Day at Sea and we would be able to sleep in and lay around if so needed. That night we sexified ourselves and headed to the club. It was empty. Crap. What now? We headed to live band karaoke - clearly awesome, right? We were the only single and fabulous ladies there. We grabbed a table and did some very necessary shots. There was a table close buy that had about eight guys - who were clearly hammered and looked to at least be in our age range. Llennifur and I immediately dubbed them "The Douche Bags." I should say Llennifur and I are in our early 30's and fabulous while Sweet K and Sugar Bird are mid 20's and sweet as pie. Us older ladies have a little bit of some bitch in us and minimal tolerance for douchie guys. One of the guys from the Douche Bags approached us (why wouldn't he?) and asked if we would do a duet with him and another guy. This kid actually looked semi normal, we will call him Dave - because that's his name. Sweet K and I were ready for it - she can actually sing and I sqawk but have a good time. Well before we could find a song the Douche Bags decided they were leaving and headed to the club. We said we would meet them there. There were more people at the club and we danced, drank and had a good time. Llennifur and I tired of the scene after awhile and left Sweet K and Sugar Bird with Dave and some other d-bags. So this is a dating blog about myself so I feel I shouldn't give too many details on my friends interactions with guys from the ship...but I will say Dave and Sweet K were rather friendly and ended up meeting multiple times on the ship and he was nice and decent (unlike his roomies).

Monday was a Fun Day at Sea - which means we slept in and laid out on the ship deck. We checked out the groups of people on the ship. There was a certain group of people (250 to be exact) that would not speak to us - much to our surprise and despite our efforts. This was disappointing as there were several good looking men with this group. We were rather surprised to not see very many groups of single people. It appeared to be a lot of couples and older folks. Oh well we would have a great time. We got ready for dinner that night in the dining hall. I had brought waterproof mascara for the only reason that we would obviously be spending lots of time in the water. I hate waterproof mascara. My roomie, Sweet K, uses it everyday as "you never know when you might cry." I hate crying in front of people. I don't show my emotions if I can help it. This waterproof mascara was the same brand as what I usually use, but it just wasn't the same...little did I know that I would be grateful for this waterproof mascara. We went to dinner and that is when we met Stanislav, our gorgeous bar waiter. He was from Bulgaria and absolutely just a tall drink of water. Kind of sad that after 1.5 days on the ship the cutest guy I had seen is part of the staff. He was delightful. I took this as my opportunity to practice my social flirting skills and flirted nightly with him. He always had a smile on his face, kind of like a cute little sheepish smile. His accent was to die for and we all would just gaze at him as he walked away.

Tuesday was our Grand Caymen port - we would be snorkeling and having a sting ray encounter. I was rather excited about this - the other ladies, not so much. We met our boat captain - he had his family with him and there were just eight others on the boat with us. This was wonderful - we had the top deck to ourselves and took advantage of laying in the sun on the way to our snorkel spots. I love to snorkel, but the water was actually kind of cold. Our second stop was Sting Ray City, in which we all got in waist deep water and our captain grabbed a sting ray and we fed it, held it and kissed it (I now have 7 years of goodluck). The third stop was another snorkeling area on the barrier reef. It was at this stop that our captain gathered up conch and cut them out of their shells and Sugar Bird and I sampled a taste of it right there in the ocean. We each got to take a conch shell home with us.

Wednesday was our Cozumel port. This was fantastic. We had a day at an all inclusive beach club. It included all drinks and food. We got to lay on the beach and have everything brought to us. Everybody was very nice. I spilled two drinks. Wednesday night we all went to the casino. Sweet K and Sugar Bird had been the night before. Llennifur drank a whole bunch and flirted with Bobby - the card dealer from Macedonia. She loved him.

Thursday was Belize. Llennifur was too hungover to go on our excursion - which was another snorkeling adventure with a stop at an island. This was our least favorite stop. We took a boat from the belize port out to the barrier reef and the waters were really rough so we bounced up and down quite a bit. I thought I would be sore the next day it was that bad! We got lectured by the staff like we were five year olds about how to snorkel and by penalty of death we were not to touch the coral. It only grows one inch per year! There is fire coral that will sting you! Do not touch it!!!! So we have to jump off the boat into this shallow area of water. I jump and for some reason have my eyes open - salt water burning my eyes with contacts in them!!!! I try and swim and immediately hit my knee on some coral!!! It is scraped and it burns the entire time! The waters were really rough and it actually was a little scary. We had to stay in a group and practically hold hands as the staff gave us a snorkeling tour. After this snorkeling adventure torture we went to a little island that was 1.5 acres. It was lovely. It was the best part of the day. We got to appreciate the beauty from island - not in the middle of the ocean in the rough waters with my knee stinging.

Thursday evening is full of flirting. Stan has started greeting us as pretty ladies. He always asks us how are excursions have been and asks what we will be doing in the evening. He also has started charging us for only one drink. Tonight I sign my tab as "pretty lady." I asked him to say hello ladies in his native language. He got all embarrassed and was kind of giggling and he would pick up our table number and kind of fiddle with it. It was so adorable! He had our captive attention and when he left Llennifur told me I was "such a little flirt." This is improvement people!! I never flirt with people. I must be doing well with all my practice! In the meantime I have asked our regular waiter the rules on staff and guests hanging out. Well this is against the rules and can be cause for termination. Damn. Sweet K and Dave meet up again and Sugar Bird meets another guy with that group who has not been going out with everyone else as he does not drink. They hit it off right away. Llennifur does some more Bobby watching.

Friday is our earliest excursion in Isla Roatan, Honduras. As we are pulling up to the port all we see is this beautiful green lush island. It was amazing and so different than the other ports. We went to Gumbalina Park, about a 30 minute shuttle ride from our port. We kayaked in clear kayaks, held parrots, held monkeys and just saw this beautiful area. We relaxed by the pool. This port also had the best looking locals! This was our favorite port.

Oh Friday night...I am the only one so far who hasn't gotten really drunk. With all the drinking we do on the ship this is surprising. We have determined tonight is going to be a fabulous night as we can stay out and sleep in all day because Saturday is a Fun Day at Sea. They have live band karaoke again tonight. Sweet K and I will sing! I must prepare by having a few drinks of course. I tell Stan my plan to sing karaoke and he says that maybe he will come and watch! Whoo hoo the chance to hang out with Stan! I have three glasses of wine at dinner and get charged for one. I sign my tab as pretty lady and write where to meet at 12 a.m. for karaoke. Stan serves drinks in the casino after he is done in the dining hall. We hung out in the casino so the ladies could flirt with Bobby the dealer and I could order another drink from Stan and not be charged :) I also managed to win some money. I tipped our dealer, Bobby, and obviously hot Stan. I may have spilled another drink. Sweet K and Sugar Bird have met up with their boys. Llennifur is sitting at Bobby's table and being a little flirt. I wander off to find Stan - I might be a little drunky drunk. I see him standing alone outside of the casino so I go up to chat. He is about to get off work. I ask about the karaoke - he can't go in his work clothes and hang out with me. So I ask what he wants to do and he asks me the same. We conversate for a bit and really he can only hang out on the top deck in his regular clothes with guests. So it is decided that he will go change and we will meet back at the deck one elevators in 15 minutes (it is 12:30). Whoo hoo. I'm very excited at the prospect of getting to hang out with this very hot Bulgarian and chatting up on the top deck. I find Sugar Bird and let her know the plan. I have a glass of wine and a glass of water and go down to the deck one elevators. I sit on the stairs and wait. I then wait some more. I'm a sad little Cinderella in my awesome heels. I look at the clock on the wall it is almost 1:10 a.m. I kind of teared up - but no tears fell down my cheeks. I was like awesome, stood up twice in one week. I went to my room and composed myself (our rooms were on deck one). I went back to the elevators. No Stan. I went to where I had left Sugar Bird. She asked where Stan was. I burst into tears!!! Oh my God I am that drunk girl who cries!!! Pathetic. I know roll your eyes and groan, we have all been there before! This is the third time it has happened in my whole life. I of course then can't stop the tears rolling down my face - thank goodness I had that waterproof mascara! I tried to enjoy the rest of the night - we ended up going to the club. No one would talk to me - not a surprise I was a hot mess. I called it a night and left Sweet K and Sugar Bird with their boys. Llennifur was back in the room and we ordered in room service. It was fantastic and I felt soooo stupid!

Saturday...our last day as we would arrive back in Miami at 8:00 Sunday. We had to have all our luggage outside our door that night and only what we would use in the morning with us in the room. That night at dinner Stan of course was our bar waiter and he was not his usual smiley chatty self. I debated with myself about saying something to him - I consulted my friends. I finally just asked him what happened to him last night (in a very breezy non-confronting way). He was like, "what happened to me, what happened to you" I said I was there at the elevator and he said he was too. He got there late - around 1. I told him I was there until almost 1:15. He looked surprised and said that we must have been at different elevators. Hmmmm do I believe him? I want to. There wasn't much for entertainment on the boat that night (we had previously gone to several shows including comedy, magic and an 80's musical) so we just decided to hang out down in the casino/bar area.  Llennifur stalked Bobby around the casino and the other two went off with their boys. Around midnight I told Llennifur I wanted to talk with Stan and see if maybe he would be up for hanging out tonight. We talked to him briefly near the bar and he said he had to go as his manager was over there and he pointed somewhere. I sat at the bar and told Llennifur to leave because I couldn't ask him in front of her. Ha. She obliged. Eventually Stan closed out his tab and I know he saw me sitting there. He went in the back freezer room and then must have snuck out the side door because he never reappeared! Well gee I think that sums up how he felt. Maybe he did just make up the story about the night before?! So Llennifur and Bobby had a little flirtatious relationship going on as well and he had said he would hang out with them at the Miami port. She wrote her name and number on a napkin and gave it to him while I was waiting for Stan to come out of the freezer room. The whole night just kind of deflated my energy. Llennifur wanted to wait until Bobby got of work at 2. That was still 1.5 hours away. I told her to have fun and I was going to head to the room. I was sleeping in my underwear as I had all my luggage taken away. The next thing I know I am awakened by Sugar Bird saying that Llennifur is bringing Bobby down to their room and can she and Sweet K bring their boys to my room. I was like "I'm naked!" Well I guess Sugar Bird's man didn't want to leave his room and Dave just stopped in for a minute. I kept the blankets up to my neck. Sugar Bird slept on the couch and Sweet K and Dave left to go hang out somewhere else. We had to get up early the next day to disembark the ship.

This was truly the best time ever with these ladies. I may have been the only one not to have a cruisemance, but I could not have asked for a better time. I still got a lot of flirting practice in and that was all I was hoping for on this trip. Every single one of my fabulous friends have kept in contact with their boys...so who knows :) I personally am ready for my seven years of good luck to begin any time now...

Rage Against the Date

I was fucking stood up tonight. Fucking douche bag. I was supposed to meet Club Guy for drinks at 9. Guess what - it is fucking 9:33 and I am at home. Is it so hard to pick up the fucking phone and make a phone call to say, hey sorry change of plans or even better use your opposable thumbs (that supposedly separates you from an animal) and send a fucking text message. So basically I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go...its like a sad little 80's movie. I was really trying to make a new effort in this new year to be friendlier to strangers and take some first steps. Why even bother if I just get rejected?? This is why I am single - I only meet big fecking douche bags when I go out. Stupid bloody dating. Yes apparently I've turned a little British in my rage. Feck. I work with sick people all day - not a likely place to meet a nice man. I rarely go out and have I ever met a nice decent man at a bar or a club...nope! The D-bags are everywhere and yet they can blend in so well and us nice little girls are blinded by them. I think if I lived in a month to month crap hole, worked at the 7-11, had three kids under the age of 5, had a bad over-the-counter hair dye job and all my sentences ended with "ya know" I might have a better chance at finding a man than the successful woman I am. I'm not crazy and I'm not drama - apparently this excludes me as a good dating candidate. If I were a crazy woman I would sent this Club Guy a text telling him off, but that is not me. I don't think it is worth it. They don't care and they will just label you as "crazy." Better to see his true flaky colors now. I just had to get this out so I can forget about it and enjoy the cruise I leave for on Sunday! Tomorrow I will spend all day traveling to Miami and then meeting three of the most fabulous ladies I know. We will embark to the Western Caribbean on Sunday and spend 7 days at sea. I am very excited as I have never cruised before and love seeing these ladies. I maybe hope for just a little bit of meat on a stick to admire...and practice being friendly to strangers so when the right guy finally shows up I will be perfect at socializing :) See you all in 10 days!

Waiting Game...

Dating is stupid. Have I said that before? Oh yes, plenty of times. Dating games are so silly. Why not just make a date if you're interested? Why do you have to wait the standard 3-4 days to call? Why not just say you do not want another date? I would prefer honesty. After so many dishonest men in my life really that is all I want. Even if it might hurt my feelings a little bit because in the long run it might actually help my dating life. I would actually like to know the true reason someone does not want to go out with me again. What if it something silly I can fix - like I said "fabulous" too much or I didn't speak my mind enough. Although if it is something like I am not bisexual - forget it, not going to change (it has been a reason, well hey at least he was honest!) I don't like the disappearing act...as I'm sure many of you do not either. I cannot totally blame men when it comes to this dating flaw. I know there are a lot of horrible women out there too that have done some shady things. However, I have had to tell people I did not want to see them again after a few dates and yes it sucks, but it is the most fair thing to do instead of falling off the planet into the black hole of dating.

So in an effort to keep all my faithful followers updated I will report that I heard from Club Guy on Sunday when he was in San Francisco at the UNR vs Boston College football game. I thought that was nice and really was unsure if I would hear from him...however, no plans have been made for a date! This is what I find kind of silly...is Sunday too soon to make a plan for during the week? Some people would think that would make you sound too interested. How about, you typically only have a couple days during the week available and want to make sure you can fit someone in before friends ask you to do something. I will not cut my friends out of my life! My work schedule varies and that means my available date nights can vary. I have a standard Thursday night date with my girlfriends so that night is out. I am more available on Friday nights than Saturdays. Sundays are typically reserved for my sister (Sister Sunday). So therefore I'd like to know plans a few days in advance. I am not opposed to plans at the last minute, but I know that makes me too "available" as well. Silly games. If CG (Club Guy) already suggested next week...why not make a date? Of course I am sure he has his own life factors that he takes into consideration when making a date too. Ugh. I just kind of wanted a date before I left this Saturday to go on a 7 day cruise, as if you leave too much time in between, people will sometimes lose interest.

Speaking of too much time - I received a Blackberry message from the Fish last night just after 10 p.m. This woke me up. Yes I am fabulous and go to bed at a reasonable hour (except I guess for T-pilot). The message basically said he is sorry he's late and he hopes I am enjoying the new year so far. He says he has a few days off this weekend if I would like to meet in Reno "or something." Honestly I was very surprised to receive this message. I had written him off and was okay with it. On the other hand, his biceps were perfection and I did have a good time on our first date. Some people may say "screw him" and not respond. I might do that too if he had been a jerk or had been dishonest, but really are schedules just had not coordinated very well. I did not respond last night (cannot be so quick to respond when I haven't heard from him for 2 weeks, plus I was sleepy!) I responded to his message this morning with the fact that I wouldn't be able to because of my very fabulous cruise with some very fabulous ladies and that maybe when I got back. Don't worry I didn't actually say "fabulous" in my response. I guess we will see what happens next...

UPDATE: So the Fish did respond and he said that his timing sucks and that hopefully he will get some more time off soon so that he can come up here when I get back. He will check his training schedule/weather around then.

As for Club Guy - after some very logical advice from my sister, I will just see if he wants to try and grab a drink before I go on my cruise. The reasoning is if I wait to hear from him and I don't what is the difference than the situation I am already in. If I ask him and he can't does it really change anything? No. He has shown some interest and if he is repulsed by the fact I asked him to do something then obviously it is just time to say NEXT! The more I put myself out there and the more dates I go on the better I will become at this whole thing and just maybe I will meet someone! I'm already getting a little better at being friendly to strangers. The cruise will be a big test :)

An Exercise in Futility

I received a text from Club Guy Friday night around 10 p.m. stating that he is sorry we didn't get together this week, that he is leaving in the morning to go to San Francisco and maybe next week. So will I hear from him? Maybe. I'll keep you updated.

Last night was a friend's birthday and a group of about 10 got together for dinner and then a little bar time. I have one rather comical story that I must share. The night was nearing its end and a friend reported to me that there was a guy checking me out. I took a look for myself and he had just gone and sat at a table by himself. He was wearing a Lakers jersey (red flag) with a zip up sweatshirt and was not unattractive. So in my quest to be friendlier to strangers and really trying to put the hermit shy side of me away I decided I would go over and say hello. He smiled and shook my hand and introduced himself, Devanair. I should have turned around right then. Devanair? As in debonair with a "v" He reports that he is a music producer. Oh God. Really. He says he is 23. I am ready to just turn right around, but now I can't be rude so I decide to just make this an exercise. When he asked how old I was and I told him, his first question was do I have any kids. Nope. That's right I am almost 32 with no kids. I have a job. I have a home. I have my shit together. I am still single. He tells me I'm beautiful and I must have 12 boyfriends. Really buddy if I had 12 boyfriends why would I have walked my beautiful self over here to say hello to some young kid in a Lakers jersey. He proceeds to tell me that he and his friends were just over at another bar in one of the casinos and had to be escorted out. The security guy was putting his hands on him and he doesn't like it when someone puts their hands on him. OH MY GOD! Get me out of here. I was looking over at the table where my friends were, but they were not paying that much attention. He would lean into me and I would lean away. If there was a body language expert there they would have known immediately I am not even remotely interested! During the conversation his sweatshirt has kind of slipped down so it is kind of hanging on his elbows. You know how we used to do that when we were in fifth grade and thought it was cool. I want to tell him to pull it up. He then goes back to how beautiful I am. Really? I'm pretty sure you would be saying that to any girl who had walked up to you. Get a new line. He then says, "By the way, I'm also a rapper. I'm a producer/rapper." I want to laugh. Okay I'm a super bitch. He produces a business card that lists himself as the CEO of a music/entertainment production company. He wants to hear from me, but the number on the card is wrong. I want to laugh some more. I'm a super duper bitch. I get up to leave and he asks if I smoke (as in weed). I say no. He says, "Oh so you're a good girl." That's right I am way to good for you...you pot smoking rapper. Such a cliche. Another futile night out in Reno. Where are the handsome professional men who just need an occasional night out??

New Year and Full of Hope

It is the beginning of a new year, 2011. This is the year I am going to meet the man of my dreams. Stop laughing. It could happen...well maybe...okay hopefully. I realize I took a bit of a hiatus during the holidays and will do my best to catch everyone up on the much anticipated dating life of my fabulous self.

As far as the fish from the last blog...haven't seen him! We did stay in contact for awhile and I looked forward to a second date. We had some snow storms that prevented him from traveling up this way on a weekend we discussed getting together. He came up to the area for Christmas, but I had my family here and getting together was just not feasible. I last heard from him 10 days ago. 10 days is forever in the dating world and I do not expect to hear from him again. 10 days ago he mentioned coming up for New Years, but he never asked if I wanted to go out if he did make it up here. I actually am not that disappointed. I think we had a really good first date and I would like to have gone out with him again, but it has been a month now and it would be like another first date all over if we went out again. In the meantime I met someone who made me realize how amazing it can be to actually feel chemistry instantly. Let me take you on a journey of one fantastic week...

Several months ago during the World Series (SF Giants champions whoo hoo) I had a friend email me through the very popular facebook site that I had the same status as one of her friends (in regards to the Giants game). I jokingly replied that he sounded perfect. She then said by the way he is also a pilot and good looking. I was like okay stop, now you are just teasing. That is when she revealed he did not actually live in Reno. Ahhhh always a catch!! She told me to look him up on her friends list anyway as you just never know. So I grew some balls (as my sister always tells me to do) and I looked at his profile and was like, huh he is kind of cute. So I emailed him. Through several emails we discovered that he knows my very good friend, who is also a pilot. Small world. I will call this man T-pilot. I mentioned him to my friend (C-pilot), who had nothing bad to say about him. I emailed T-pilot and said if he is ever in Reno we should meet as it would be fun. He is from this area, but says he doesn't make it back that often. Well fast forward to December, he posts that he is going to be in the Reno area from Dec 22- Jan 4. I emailed him and said if he is up for meeting I would be around, but I know what it is like coming home for visits and all the people that you have to see. He emailed me on Christmas that getting drinks sounded like a good idea. We planned to meet Monday after I got off work. He said he was "stoked" to meet me. I admit I was kind of excited; however, I did not know what kind of actual meeting this was - was this just a "hey we know people in common lets be friends" or was it more of like "hey you're cute, maybe this could be a date." I didn't know, but I knew I had to look good either way because I thought he was cute!

Monday, December 27 arrived and I was working the late shift and didn't get off until 7:45 and we were meeting at 8. I brought what I thought would be a cute casual beginning of the week outfit to wear to meet at a trendy bar. I luckily got off 15 minutes early so I could prepare myself. I washed my face, reapplied my makeup, curled my hair and put on the fabulous outfit I had put together. I had a white, v-neck Guess tee with black writing and little rhinestones on it with ripped jeans and my knee high suede boots. I accented the outfit with a chunky ring and necklace. I had a black cardigan to keep my arms warm. I put on the outfit and looked in the mirror. My first thought "WTF, I look like a tubbo!" I have worn this outfit before and thought I looked good! Now I just look like my hips are the biggest thing on my body (okay maybe they are), but I was not prepared for the plummet of my pre"date" excitedness. I quickly recharged myself by saying it must be the mirrors - right?! Right! I got a text from T-pilot, he will be running late. I say no problem I will run an errand. So my crazy self decided to go to Walmart because I need to get soap, plus I can totally check myself out in those mirrors to see if I really am a tubbo or if it is just the work mirror. Unfortunately there is a lady in one of those electric shopping carts parked right in front of the mirrors and I didn't feel it was appropriate for me to ask her to move just so I could check myself out. I left with soap and water.

I arrived first at the bar. It was fairly empty, as it is a Monday night. I watched a few people walk in and got myself a drink so I could calm down a bit. Always a bit nervous meeting new people. The bar is fairly small and I chose the furthest seat from the door and sat at a little bar table with a center candle. I had a tropical lemonade martini in front of me. He walked in...I smiled...he walked over and the first thing he said was "You look just like your pictures." Now I don't know if that is a good thing or bad thing. Sometimes I look at my pictures and I'm like that girl is pretty, but that is not me - so who knows what he thinks at this point. My first thought is literally "yum." He sits down and is instantly friendly, comfortable and chatty. I instantly liked him...a lot. He made me feel comfortable and I'm a shy, reserved girl, but I found myself talking easily with him. Plus he is so handsome, dark hair, tall and light eyes. He had a little stubble going on, which didn't surprise me as my friend, C-pilot, does the same thing when he is on leave. He looks like he could totally protect someone, not a scrawny little man. He mentioned that one of his friends might show up...and that's when I knew - this was just a friendly meet and greet. Oh well. I will have a good time and enjoy new friends. His friend showed up along with another friend. They were fun and had known T-pilot since high school. The fact that I was quiet was mentioned - I guess even when I try and be social my quietness is evident. The bar was closing up and they were discussing heading to another bar downtown. At this time it was almost midnight and I had to work at 6 a.m., but I wasn't ready to call it a night quite yet as this would probably be the only time I hung out with these people. We found a bar with karaoke. I love karaoke. I had another drink...it should be the last. I sat next to T-pilot at the bar and found myself being all girly and touching his arm when I talked to him. Oh God I am just like those little flighty girls I mock. I am not a flirty person, but found myself wanting to be just so I could talk and be close to him. This bar had a total of seven people and three of them were old men over the age of 60 singing country karaoke. I decided I would sing a song...hey I'm not going to see these people again, who cares. I realize my singing is absolutely horrendous, but it is a good time. I sang "Hey Mickey, your so fine," because I was really thinking how hot T-pilot was. Around 1 a.m. I knew it was time for me to call it a night - I had to be up in four hours. T-pilot walked me to my car and I linked my arm through his - well it was cold! He said it was nice meeting me and I said the same. He said if I wanted to party again to call him. I said ok and that pretty much confirmed we would be friends. No hug. Damn. Still I was a giddy little school girl. I decided to text him when I got home, I said "Thanks for an entertaining evening. Its too bad you live in Texas because you are just the kind of guy I would like to see more of. It was nice meeting you." He responded that it was nice meeting me too, thanks for tolerating his friends, that he thinks I'm pretty cool and if I'm not busy we could always get together again. Yippee!

Now I realize this man lives 1,602 miles away. This is 1,527 miles outside of my 75 mile limit, but I couldn't help being extremely giddy about him. I can't explain why I was so drawn to him and can count on one hand the number of times I have felt such an immediate attraction and liking to someone (of course all those men ended up breaking my heart). I didn't get much sleep that night and work came before the sun came up, but I made it through the day with a bit of a perma-smile on my face. Pathetic. I am not this girl! Wednesday came and I went to work at 6 a.m. again and was off at 5 p.m. I had not heard from T-pilot by this point and my smart brain was finally starting to work again and I was like, "Aimee you are being silly and stop being excited about this guy." I also decided it would probably be a good idea if I didn't hear from him again because if I do see him I have a serious chance of developing a big huge crush on him. I was thinking these thoughts on my drive home, which took forever because of a snow storm, and by the time I got home I was okay with the idea of not seeing him again. I get home, take my coat off and my phone gets a text message. It is from T-pilot!! Uh oh, perma-smile comes back and the little giddiness is rising about to choke me. He asks me if I am going out tonight or if I have to work in the morning. I said I did have to work in the morning, but I could be persuaded to go out :) He had to have dinner with his dad, but wanted to do something after and he kind of felt like dancing. I suggested a bar at one of the casinos that had a live band and was close to a little club that had DJ dancing. Perfect we would meet in a couple hours. Time to find a sexy midweek dance outfit! I chose a shirt I had recently bought with my sister who told me it looked good (she wouldn't lie, right). It was black and silver striped shimmer and had a drapey neck and fitted around my hips. I wore skinny jeans and little black suede ankle boots. I put my hair half up with a flower clip. I hope I looked good. I felt good enough. I told myself I would leave by midnight as I had to work at 6 a.m. again. I told myself I would not drink and if a bunch of friends showed up I would definitely know he saw me as only a friend and I would have no problem leaving at midnight.

I was a little late because of the weather. I walked in and saw him sitting at a table. He stood up, hugged me...and then looked me up and down. I saw it. I then was like, hmmmmm maybe he is attracted to me or maybe he was thinking what a horrendous outfit she has on. He had a drink waiting for me. So I told myself I would just have one or maybe two. He looked good of course with a sweater and a collared shirt underneath. Yum. We talked and had some drinks and I just again was amazed that I really did like this guy. Then his friend showed up - the same one I had met Monday, which was okay, he was nice. I also realize he doesn't get to see him very often either and he did ask me to hang out too. Eventually it was decided we were going to head to the second place and go dancing. I danced with T-pilot and of course had to touch him while we danced, it would be rude not to...and that's when the serious flirting began. At this point my curfew was quickly approaching, but I couldn't leave and I didn't for one second even want to leave. I like him. We were having such a good time. We would dance, go chat at the table, drink and at one point he was holding my hand at the table. I was smitten. It just got later and later and I realized I would be getting very little sleep, but I think it would be worth it - plus I never do this! Eventually it was time to go. We got in the elevator. I pushed the button. He grabbed my coat and pulled me to him and kissed me. The whole world faded out...I vaguely remember hearing the beep of the elevator doors open...and then close. One of the best first kisses ever and he says to me "I've wanted to do that since the moment we met." Ahhhhhhhhh. I of course eat that shit right up. Do you know how long it has been since someone has said something nice to me??? Forever. This man is so cute and he just kissed me. Somehow I managed to get 30 minutes of sleep. Thursday was a rough morning, but uh oh there is that stupid school girl giddiness clinging to me. We texted throughout the day and said how much fun we had and that we would have to get together in the new year. He was heading up to Tahoe that afternoon for a vacation with a bunch of his friends and wouldn't be back until Sunday. He texted me Thursday night and I was flattered that he would think of me while he was with his friends :) I like him. Friday was New Years Eve. I know you must wonder what a 30-something, single and fabulous lady would do for New Years - well I fell asleep. On the couch. At 8 p.m. I think I was in some serious need of sleep catch up. I did wake up around 11 and then again at 1. I got a text from T-pilot saying he hoped I had a great night and that he wished I was there. Ahhhhhhhhh. Ate that shit up too. I like him. My New Years resolution is to be friendlier to strangers and try and wipe the bitch look off my face when I am out.

Eventually Sunday arrives - the day I get to see him and the last day I will see him as he leaves Tuesday. He came over Sunday night after having dinner with a friend. He brought wine. I was nervous waiting for him and still a little nervous when he arrived, but he is just so easy to be around that it dissipated. We sat on the couch, drank wine, watched Dexter and he was nice to my dog. Nobody is nice to my dog, which I can't say I blame them, she often does try to bite new people. He was trying to get her to let him pet her and she was trying to hide behind me, it was so cute. Eventually Lola gave in...and then she kept putting her paw on his hand. He had his hand on my knee on the couch and I realized that is exactly the kind of thing I miss the most about dating and having a man around...the simple affection of just showing someone I like you. The discussion of us remaining in contact when he left was not broached and I will take this week for what it was. I told him I appreciated him taking the time to see me. Honestly I am just so flattered that he picked me to see and kiss when he could probably get anyone. He said he had a great time and to not be a stranger, which is far from "Wow Aimee you are fabulous and I really want to see you again, how can we make this work." I did not expect to hear that, but of course was wishing I would. This is the kind of man I had forgotten even existed. I have just had way too many awful dates and awful things happen that I needed this to be reminded that there are good ones out there. I have to be patient and I will find one that wants to be with me as well. I have not heard from T-pilot since he left and I will get over my crush. I just hope he ends up with a woman who knows how lucky she is, not some 22 year old girl who thinks life has been hard. I will miss T-pilot and his sexy smile and eyes. If life were a romantic comedy things would be perfect right now!

So let's rewind a bit to Saturday night. It was a friend's 30th birthday so of course we had to go dancing! I got all sassed up and wore a black strapless tight dress with tiny little red stars on it. I have worn this dress before and never been hit on even though I'm told I look good in it. There was a perfect amount of people at the club - not too much as the night before had been New Years and people were probably still recovering. I love dancing and people watching. I saw one cute boy. One. He was dancing with a couple girls and I saw him look over at me a few times. I tried smithing (smiling with my eyes as Tyra Banks has taught me from America's Next Top Model) as a way to try and wipe the scowl off my face that people tell me I have. This man caught my attention because  1- he was a good dancer and 2- he was cute with a bald head and just the little chin part of a goatee.  At one point I turn around and he is near me and getting ready to walk away so I just grabbed him to dance with him. Friendly to strangers. We danced the rest of the night. He was a good dancer and we had fun. He went to use bathroom and get a drink. Well apparently my friend and her boyfriend went to go talk to him and tell him how wonderful I was and my friend's boyfriend insisted on getting his phone number. A little embarrassing, but I need a cheerleading squad for myself because God knows I do not give myself enough praise. So by the end of the night my knee hurt (I twisted it a week earlier when I tumbled down the mountain skiing) and I was ready to go. Club guy said to call him - I told him to call me and he took my number. Well two days ago I actually called him to see if he wanted to do something this weekend. I have never called a guy first. Never ever, but I know that if I don't want to be alone at 42 I need to start doing things differently. Even if he never calls back at least I am making the effort. He texted me the next morning to say that he was out of town for work and would be back that night and would be in San Francisco for the UNR bowl game this weekend. I told him I was available for Friday if he was up for it. He said he would let me know tomorrow (tomorrow is now today, which is Friday). It is 4:30 p.m. - am I going to hear from him? I'm doubtful. Plus I'm supposed to just keep my evening open waiting to hear if we are going to do something? Am I supposed to just be ready at the last minute to go out? Does it matter? Men think completely different from us women and we will never understand the other. Too bad I have no other options except to sit on my arse tonight. Tomorrow I have plans, but not tonight. Ahhh the life of a single girl who only has friends in relationships. Dating games suck...but I will remain hopeful that this is the year I meet a great guy. I of course say this every year, but eventually it has to be true. I have spent the last five new years as a single girl and dated countless jerks who hurt me and guess what - I'm super tired of it. I am hopeful. I am hopeful. Fake it until I feel it! I am hopeful or at least I will seriously give a good effort at trying to be hopeful :)
